Herman’s journey began when he was discovered sitting alone in a parking lot, without the ability to fly. Sue Rogers, the compassionate founder of The Mia Foundation, stepped in to rescue him. Despite the hesitancy of others to care for a flightless bird, Sue was determined to provide Herman with a loving home at her shelter in Rochester, New York, surrounded by fellow rescued animals.

Though flightless, Herman exudes an infectious energy and joy. He finds immense delight in overseeing Sue’s newborn puppies at the shelter, often snuggling with them and gently preening them. He shares his nurturing instincts until the puppies find their forever families. It was during one of these tender moments that Herman’s path crossed with Lundy’s, a baby chihuahua born with a rare condition that rendered his hind legs immobile.
