Henry Cavill and the Race to Become the Next James Bond
After Daniel Craig officially said goodbye to the role of James Bond with the film No Time to Die, fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting the announcement of the next actor to take on the legendary 007 spy. One of the top contenders is Henry Cavill, the actor famous for his role as Superman and more recently as Geralt in The Witcher.
Henry Cavill: “It’s an Honor”
During the promotion of the Apple TV+ film Argylle, Cavill was asked about the possibility of playing James Bond. The 38-year-old actor didn’t shy away from the question, offering a diplomatic response:
“I think it would be very interesting to have a conversation with the producers. In an ideal world, I’d never have to turn anything down. Nothing is impossible. Being mentioned in this conversation is already an honor.”
Cavill remained humble, but it’s clear he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of becoming the next Bond.
Director Matthew Vaughn: “Cavill Was Born to Play Bond”
Argylle director Matthew Vaughn didn’t hide his support for Cavill, stating:
“Henry Cavill was born to play James Bond. I need to get him in my movie before the Bond producers do.”
The endorsement from a well-known director only strengthens the belief that Cavill is a strong contender for the role.
What Are Cavill’s Chances?
Following Cavill’s comments, the odds of him landing the role of James Bond have shifted dramatically. Bookmaker Ladbrokes reduced his odds from 9/1 to 007/1, a number full of significance.
However, Cavill is still not the top contender. According to the latest odds:
- Richard Madden (7/2)
- Tom Hardy (4/1)
- Henry Cavill (007/1)
Henry Cavill Almost Became Bond in 2005
This isn’t the first time Cavill has been linked to the role of James Bond. In 2005, he auditioned for Casino Royale, but the part ultimately went to Daniel Craig. At the time, Cavill was younger and less experienced compared to Craig.
Now, with experience and fame gained from Man of Steel, The Witcher, and Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Henry Cavill seems ready to step into the shoes of the new 007.
Will he beat other strong contenders to become the next Bond? Fans will have to wait for the final decision from the producers.
